There is just a lot to learn and this book really breaks down and simplifies the language of music. This book will not cover all of music theory but it gives you enough to guide you by allowing youbto understand how a. I would play the root with the drums but it would be very boring.

I would play Em just as an open E instead of giving the chord it's proper minor feel with a 3b which is a chord tone. By simplify I mean easy to understand.

This book is very good for a bass reference. That is, if you need to lookup for definitions, techniques and things like that, you can open this book and get it.
Of all the beginner bass books I got, this one is the best, by far.
The intro said nothing was assumed about the reader but a desire to learn the bass. Without moving what. I will think twice before I automatically grab the dummies book on a subject again. There are no pictures of how your fingers go onto the wires to, you know, make different notes. I like the dummies series because no matter the topic, you can pick one up and get the very basics broken down for you.

Not so with this book. my hand. This book is useless to me, and is getting returned. I have never picked up a bass, so I think i qualify. The few pages on tabs are like reading instructions for tieing shoelaces with no pictures.
It's helpful for beginners (like me) and a friend of mine with 25 years' playing experience found it worth his while too. This is a great book, it's easy to follow and full of useful tips.
